June/ July: Mr. T’s Corner

In my past I have contributed to Cathy’s Village newsletter by adding my experience. This is my latest.

We nurture and have a hand in your raising your child.  One of the ways is to encourage several times a year where we open up on weekends and evenings to facilitate parent participation. Another is we encourage children to return for visits to share after they have moved on to larger classroom experiences.

One of the main ideas is sharing in reading.  I had a recent experience where a child shared took a book I used to read to her and read it back to me. I know that some can memorize sentences by repeating without understanding exactly what they said.  Yet listening carefully and quickly reveals which one  it was: Repeating or reading.  She was actually reading and having known this child for years I could see the difference not only in the words but in the inflection, she wanted to let me know.  Then we watched her dance on stage with her new class.

Cathy provides instruction well past rope-line walks in the neighborhood our competition teaches. Thank you for your understanding,

Mr. T
